Every item has one of three qualities: crude, fine, or superior. An item's quality determines the size of its supply die, which you roll to determine whether an item is destroyed or consumed upon use. The item's listed in this chapter and most items you find are crude by default.
Crude: d4
Fine: d6
Superior: d8
When you use an item or tool in your inventory, you must usually make a supply check to see if it is used up. You make a supply check by rolling the item's supply die. On a 1 or 2, the item is depleted, and you must erase it from your inventory.
Fine & Superior Equipment
The armaments and armor listed in this chapter are crude, but fine and superior equipment can be crafted during the game. These items gain +1 traits.
Supply Checks for Weapons & Armor
In general, you only need to make a supply check for your weapons and armor when you use them for an unintended purpose: for example, using a helm to prop up a raised stone door, or using a maul to smash open a locked chest. When you use your weapons and armor in combat, there is no risk that they will break, but a few enemies may have abilities that can destroy ordinary equipment. Enchanted weapons and armor are always immune to these effects.
